  "github_readme_excerpt": "# Mac Media Key Forwarder\n\nMac Media Key Forwarder for [Apple Music](https://www.apple.com/apple-music/) and [Spotify](https://www.spotify.com).\n\nForwards your keyboard media keys (play/pause, next, previous) to Apple Music or Spotify directly.\n\nYou can prioritize which app you would like to control or you can go with the default behaviour which controls the running app.\n\nThe app runs in the menu bar.\n\nDownload the compiled application from my [Releases](https://github.com/quentinlesceller/macmediakeyforwarder/releases).\n\nIf you want even more control over what you want to control you should try [beardedspice](http://beardedspice.github.io).\n\n**Issues you should know about**\n\nThe app listens on the event tap for key events. This causes problems in some rare cases, like \n- when changing search engine in Safari\u0027s preferences window\n- when trying to allow third-party kernel extensions\n\nIn these cases simply pause Mac Media Key Forwarder from it\u0027s menu.\n\n**Requirements**\n\nmacOS 26 (Tahoe) or later. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. For older systems, use version 3.1.2.\n\n**Installation \u0026 permissions**\n\nMac Media Key Forwarder needs two permissions to work:\n\n- **Accessibility**, so it can listen for the media keys on your keyboard.\n- **Automation**, so it can tell Apple Music and Spotify to play, pause, or skip. This is why macOS shows an automation (osascript) prompt the first time you use a media key. The app only sends standard playback commands to those two apps and nothing else.\n\nOn first launch the app asks for Accessibility access and offers an **Open System Settings** button. Turn on **MacMediaKeyForwarder** under **Privacy \u0026 Security** \u003e **Accessibility**, and the app starts forwarding right away. There is no need to relaunch it.\n\nThe Automation permission is requested the first time you press a media key.
