"github_readme_excerpt": "# \\# ELinks - an advanced web browser\n\nELinks is an advanced and well-established feature-rich text mode web\n(HTTP/FTP/..) browser. ELinks can render both frames and tables, is\nhighly customizable and can be extended via scripts. It is very portable\nand runs on a variety of platforms.\n\nThe ELinks official website is available at \u003chttp://elinks.cz/\u003e.\n\nPlease see the SITES file for mirrors or other recommended sites. If you\nwant to install ELinks on your computer, see the INSTALL file for\nfurther instructions.\n\nA good starting point is documentation files available in doc/,\nespecially the file index.txt.\n\nIf you want to request features or report bugs, see community\ninformation at \u003chttp://elinks.cz/community.html\u003e and feedback\ninformation available at \u003chttp://elinks.cz/feedback.html\u003e.\n\nIf you want to write some patches, please first read the doc/hacking.txt\ndocument.\n\nIf you want to add a new language or update the translation for an\nexisting one, please read po/README document.\n\nIf you want to write some documentation, well, you\u2019re welcome! ;)\n\n# Historical notes\n\nInitially, ELinks was a development version of Links (Lynx-like text WWW\nbrowser), with more liberal features policy and development style. Its\npurpose was to provide an alternative to Links, and to test and tune\nvarious new features, but still provide good rock-solid releases inside\nstable branches.\n\nWhy not contribute to Links instead? Well, first I made a bunch of\npatches for the original Links, but Mikulas wasn\u2019t around to integrate\nthem, so I started releasing my fork. When he came back, a significant\nnumber of them got refused because Mikulas did not like them as he just\nwouldn\u2019t have any use for them himself. He aims to keep Links at a\nrelatively closed feature set and merge only new features which he\nhimself needs. It has the advantage that the tree is very narrow and the\ncode is small and contains very little bloat.\n\nELinks, on the contrary, aims to provide a full-featured web browser,\nsuperior to ",
